On our family adventures you can count on discovering that there is still the kid in all of us and the family will see the easy-going parent inside of you—you’ll want someone else to take the controls and organize, set up and manage all those details so you can have fun. Take the free time to enjoy the family and activities with custom tailored activities like fishing, stand up paddling, kayaking and more.

Follow the path of the likes of Butch Cassidy, the mysterious “D. Julien”, Flat-nose Curry and Major John Wesley Powell who called this canyon wilderness “a region of wildest desolation”. Today, Desolation and Gray Canyons remain one of the wildest desert wilderness places on the map, a place of Indian petroglyphs, abandoned homesteads, shadow-filled grottos and the Green River.

The Green River builds strength through more than 60 rapids, two newly formed in 1987. The progression of rapids, from unnamed riffles to the more challenging Three Fords, Steer Ridge, Coal Creek and Rattlesnake, make this a perfect place to learn the art and skills of river running. Most of our whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing seminars are held here.
Whether learning to boat yourself or just looking for an adventure in the Old West, a trip through the Green River Wilderness can be the answer for just about anyone, family fun for every age. An “Ideal” family trip.

AND SO IT BEGINS RIVER MAGIC DVORAK STYLE! When you reserve your adventure with Dvorak Rafting & Kayak Expeditions, you will be taken care of from the time you meet us until we send you on your way at the end.  We are now officially on “River Time”

DIVERSITY! A week, two days, three days, or more, Dvorak Rafting & Kayak Expeditions cater to all tastes. Right from the start, our staff does the tough stuff – the glory of adventure, without the worry!

TENTS OR CASTLES! Wilderness camping in tents available on all our trips or arranged lodging for multi sport packages.

MORNING SUNRISE! Dawn is accompanied by the sweet morning chorus of the river birds singing, rustling tents opening, and nature stretching its wings and the call of “Cawfeee” hot and rich to your senses. As you make your way to the kitchen, the smell of fresh bacon, pancakes and nibbles of fresh fruit and juices entice your appetite to begin the day.

AFTERNOON DELIGHT! Now that you’re wet and wild, you have explored a side canyon or perhaps walked back in time to the ancient one’s ruins.  After lunch we’ll pack up for a afternoon run of whitewater till we reach our river camp this late afternoon.

THE RIVER DANCE BEGINS; First timers will rest assured that when we arrive to camp for the night your guides will set up camp and help you or show you how to set up tents. The dinner crew prepare the evening meal and sets out your appetizers and cold drinks and wine for after all that fresh air – “fuel for the fires of appetite” will have taken over.  (Make sure we know when there’s a birthday or anniversary because there will be one in the works from the kitchen crew)

A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP! Sleeping well is an essential luxury of any vacation. Our guests bed down in roomy four season tents with floors and flies, warm sleeping bags, atop self-inflating pads. Just before you close your eyes one last time – look up and see STARS like you have never seen before!

VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE. You can count on each day of your trip having some new twists and turns and a wild ride or two along with some quiet gentle moments on the river. Water will be a big part of each day as the full days run is from about 9:00 a.m. thru until 3-4:30 p.m. Some days have more hiking – others are more rafting. One thing for sure is your trip will be like no other and the friends, laughter and experiences will be a good time – every time! The whitewater thrills will fade but the tall tales just get taller every year! “River Magic” Dvorak style!

Note : Additional costs: Air shuttle from Grand Junction, CO or Green River, UT to the river launch site and sales tax, government use fees and pilot fee per person. *Camping gear is available to rent.

The Dolores River flows down through the high country running clear, cool and surrounded by breathtaking beauty. Campsites are under the branches of ancient 100` Ponderosa pines …

Our guides will give you a tour you will never forget!

The famous Colorado Spring flowing Dolores river is the home of the legendary Class V Snaggletooth Rapid. Here begins one of the most challenging stretches of white water in the west, culminating in the fury of the Narrows, ten miles downstream. For thrilling fun with less adrenaline, these stretches also include exhilarating Class II to IV whitewater rapids.

The Dolores flows down from the San Juan Mountains into one of the most beautiful wilderness canyons in North America. Stop for a side canyon hike to encounter Anasazi Ruins and mysterious petroglyphs and pictographs left by “The Ancient Ones” on steep canyon walls.

Relax while your Guide and Chef prepares delicious and beautiful outdoor snacks, lunches, and dinners for you and your group. Find your cozy accomodations set up and waiting for you to turn in for the night after your day on the river. Camp beneath ancient 100′ Ponderosa pines, and watch the stars fill the western sky. Enjoy treats, unique camp cocktails, relaxing, and recounting the day’s adventures with your party.

*NOTE: The Dolores depends on run-off from the snow pack for the current year. 2017 looks good, and we will know the status of this trip when snow-tel reports are in.

THE DOLORES SECTIONS:
Ponderosa Gorge 47 miles | Class III-IV: Here, the river flows down through the high country running clear and cold, teeming with trout. This stretch is the home of the legendary Class IV Snaggletooth Rapid. Here begins one of the most challenging stretches of water in the west, culminating in the fury of the Narrows ten miles downstream.

Slickrock Canyon 50 miles | Class II-III: More moderate rapids provide a good stretch for instructional kayak, canoe or inflatable kayaking. Here, the Dolores slows and enters the walls and more desert-like world of Slickrock. The walls are streaked with desert varnish and rise from the river’s edge to tower hundreds of feet above the water, forming the most enchanting and beautiful desert canyon in the American Southwest. Hidden grottos and side canyons hold the secrets of prehistoric Anasazi pictographs and ruins. You will camp beneath overhangs where the “Ancient Ones” camped thousands of years ago.

Hanging Flume Canyon 45 miles | Class II-III: Once leaving Slickrock, the river meanders across Paradox Valley beneath giant cottonwood trees where rookeries of Great Blue Heron and other bird life abounds. Below Paradox Canyon the river reaches the confluence with the San Miguel River (doubling the volume) and the Hanging Flume Canyon. The historical remnants of the flume – built to get water to the “high bar” of the Lone Tree Placer mine – can still be seen suspended 400 feet above the river.
