This is Colorado’s fly fishing dream trip!
Please note, this trip is lead by our friends over at Ed’s Fly Shop!
We offer customized–guided Gold Medal fly fishing float trips. This part of the Gunnison calms down with good tailwater fishing and some dark bank shadows for BIG Browns and Rainbows and runs clear waters of class II.
It is a Catch & Releases fishery with a fish count of over 7,000 Rainbow and Brown trout per mile, 1,000 of which are 14-35 inches. Gold Medal fisheries are 60 pounds of fish per acre and the Gunnison River has over 400 pounds per acre!
The access and unique ‘Hatches’ makes these very desirable trip. We can set up the rafts or drift boats with 2 anglers per boat. Our professional guides will provide your meals (lunch thru lunch). There is easy access at Gunnison Forks Park launch site; (An alternate meeting location is Ed’s Fly Shop in Montrose, CO) and Ed’s Fly Shop will return you to your vehicle at the trip end.
The rafts or drift boats (pre-arranged) will be set up with only 2 anglers per raft and the pace of your journey down the river will depend on the quality of the fishing conditions in the season. Possible for additional guests 1×2 anglers on the same date and lunch only for 1-day anglers. Otherwise, you will most likely keep your own pace throughout the days.
The Gunnison River is a sportsman’s and paddler’s paradise. The clear, cold waters of the Gunnison have been designated a Gold Medal Trout Fishery. It is a river that has been included in the National Landscape Conservation System. This part of the Gunnison is a mild class II section and great for fishing beginners to advance.
