FULL DAY FLOAT FISHING
This is Colorado’s fly fishing dream trip below the world famous Black Canyon National Park’s after the Gunnison River Gorge in the Lower river section”. We offer 1-2 or 3 days of customized – guided Gold Medal fly fishing float trips. This part of the Gunnison calms down with good tail water fishing and some dark bank shadows for BIG Browns and Rainbows and runs clear waters of class II. It is a Catch & Release fishery with a fish count of over 7000 Rainbow and Brown trout per mile and 1000 of which are 14″-35 inches. Gold Medal fisheries are 60 pounds of fish per acre and the Gunnison River has over 400 pounds per acre!
The access and unique ‘Hatches’ makes these very desirable trip. We can set up the rafts or drift boats with 2 anglers per boat . Our professional guides will prepare your meals (lunch through lunch on multi-day trips) and set up the camp. There is easy access at the Gunnison Forks Park (our meeting location) and DVK will return you to the same at the trip end.
The rafts or drift boats (pre-arranged) will be set up with only 2 anglers per raft and the pace of your journey down the river will depend on the quality of the fishing conditions in the season. Possible for additional guests 1×2 anglers on same date and lunch. Otherwise, you will most likely keep your own pace throughout the day.
Accessible only by foot; 1-mile hike into Gorge and horse pack of boats and gear into the Gorge the day before your trip, the Gunnison Gorge is a wilderness canyon for those who are willing to literally go the extra mile. A trip to the canyon floor requires a hike of one mile down a steep trail. Guests are expected to carry their personal gear in dry bag backpacks provided by Dvorak. COLORADO FISHING LICENSE REQUIRED!
It is a hidden jewel, off the beaten path, tucked deep in steep granite walls. The Gunnison River is a sportsman’s and paddler’s paradise. The clear, cold waters of the Gunnison have been designated a Gold Medal Trout Fishery. Its narrow river corridor creates exciting whitewater action on a river that has been included in the National Park System in 2003.

The limited access and unique 2 or 3 days June ‘Stonefly Hatch’ makes these very exciting trip @ special rates. There is easy access to the finish point, Gunnison Forks Park (our meeting location), and by arrangement, DVK can pick up from Montrose airport and return to same at days end.

PRICING: $325 per boat (2 person minimum)
Trip Preparation: We will schedule pre-trip meetings to check our lists and finalize last minute details before your shuttle flight to the river launch sites. When you get to the river we will fit you out with your personal flotation device (PFD), issue your waterproof bag for personal gear, confirm your camping equipment is there (tents/sleeping bags/pads/rain gear/wetsuit/boots etc.), and gather everyone to the circle for introductions and a river safety talk.
Food Preparation: The meals are planned with lots of fresh and hearty vegetables and salads. Gourmet selections for the delight of our guests throughout the journey. Your guides will be in charge of all preparations and they will amaze you with what comes out of those dutch ovens!
We can accommodate special diets with advance notice and the menu almost always suits the vegetarian.
Alcohol: Dvorak’s will provide complimentary wine for dinners. You’re welcome to bring alcohol on multi-day expeditions, as long as it’s in unbreakable containers. Discretion in alcohol consumption during whitewater days is strongly advised. If you would like us to pick up a particular beer and bring it to the river, please advise and payment can be made for your purchase at the river put-in with your Trip Leader.
Gratuities: Gratuities are not included in your trip cost. While tipping is done at your discretion, tipping is one of the gauges we use in terms of customer satisfaction. If you are ever not satisfied, please let us know so that we can adjust our expeditions in the future.
BY PLANE: Fly into Montrose, CO Airport (served by United, Continental, and America West) for pick up at lodge or airport. (See details on confirmation letter). Or Fly into Grand Junction, Colorado Walker Field (served by United, Frontier, America West, Delta, and Great Lakes Aviation) and rent a car for the 1½ hour drive to the Gunnison Forks Pleasure Park. Take Hwy. #50 south 50 miles to Delta, then east on Hwy. #92, 14 miles to the Gunnison Forks turn off.
Alternately fly into Denver (served by most major airlines) and rent a car for the 4½ hour drive to the Gunnison Forks rendezvous. Take Interstate #70 west to Glenwood Springs. Turn south on Hwy. #82 and go 12 miles to Carbondale, then southwest 60 miles on Hwy. #33 to Hotchkiss. Continue for 6 miles on Hwy. #92 to the Gunnison Forks Park south turn off.
BY CAR: From the North: Follow directions for air travelers from either Grand Junction or Denver. From the South: Take Hwy. #50 north from Montrose 20 miles to Delta, then Hwy. #92 east 14 miles to the Gunnison Forks turn off. TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS AT TRIP’S END
You will arrive back at your vehicle at the Gunnison Forks Pleasure Park mid to late afternoon of the last day of your trip.
Although you can usually make a connecting flight home from Grand Junction after 7:00 p.m. on the last day of the trip, we recommend you fly out the following morning in case inclement weather or other circumstances delays your arrival in Denver. Remember, "River Time" is unpredictable.
