Public hearings, Over The River permit, to be held next week

Public hearings for the Over The River permit from Fremont County will be held next week. Christo needs your help and time is running out!

Christo is providing free Over The River t-shirts and stickers to get participants ready for next week’s public hearings. Get yours by joining Christo in Cañon City on Feb. 1st, visiting Salida FOR coordinator Elizabeth Ritchie at Café Dawn in Salida this weekend or coming early to the Cotopaxi hearing on Feb. 2nd (details below).

You can help Christo make this temporary work of art a reality!

Comment ideas. Public comments will influence the County’s decision on Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s Over The River and supporters should submit comments in their own words. To help you get started, the OTR team developed this sample comment and made other specific key points available online:

Dear Fremont County,

I support Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s Over The River and urge Fremont County to approve the Temporary Use Permit for this once in a lifetime project. The extensive Bureau of Land Management (BLM) analysis indicates that Over The River will have significant economic and cultural benefits for Fremont County with only minimal, temporary impacts.

The Over The River application incorporates more than 100 mitigation measures already identified in the BLM’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). This comprehensive mitigation plan would be applied to all of the work in Fremont County [the county permit] and I am confident it avoids or minimizes potential impacts related to the project. Fremont and Chaffee counties worked closely with the BLM, as cooperating agencies, to develop the extensive set of EIS solutions for Over The River.
