10 Colorado Activities To Do This Spring

Winter is ending and the awkward time between winter and spring, also known as Mud Season is upon us. The ski resorts are closing, the snow is slowly melting, and you are pumped for summer fun! Luckily, the mountains of Colorado still have tons of exciting activities to keep you entertained until Spring and summer are in full bloom.

This winter has not been a typical snow packed Colorado winter. Temperatures have been mild and snow fall as been lacking in many areas. Which means lakes are thawing out or haven’t even iced over. Grab your SUP and head out on a sunny spring day to explore some new water, practice your sup technique, or even try some SUP yoga.

Hiking is a go to Colorado activity year round. Spring hiking can offer up some time in the mountains when the snow is still to high for other activities. You can also catch the beauty of spring appearing before your eyes with flowers blooming and waterfalls roaring.

Maybe you have been skiing all winter and are ready for a more laid back day of activities. Try heading over to one of the animal sanctuarys, such as the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center in Divide, Co. Take a tour and get educated on some of the amazing species that call Colorado home.  Colorado Wolf and Wild Life Center Tours

Colorado is home to some of the best high country biking in the Country. However, don’t let the high country snow pack get you down! There is still plenty of great riding available right now throughout Colorado. Salida’s S Mountain Trail system remains snow free almost all year around. Along with great riding in Buena Vista and Colorado Springs as well.

Looking for a new sport that won’t cost you an arm and a leg? Take up long boarding! There is plenty of gentle slopes around Chaffee County that is perfect for ripping a long board around. One of our favorites is to get a ride to Elevation Brewery, have a beer, and cruse county road 120 back to Salida. Don’t have a long board, we have some Never Summer boards on hand for rent, and ask us about shuttles too.

What’s a better way to celebrate the end of the winter then closing weekend at Monarch Mountain?! Enjoy tailgating with friends and family and be sure to check out the kayaks on the snow race. Here they build a snow slalom course for kayakers to race down and finish in a big pool of water. It is truly a unique and must watch show! But make plans now because closing weekend is just around the corner April 7 – 8th!

Have a passion for taste testing beers and spirits? Then come spend a day… or a few checking out the local businesses in Chaffee County. Salida and Buena Vista has really become a little mecca of breweries, distilleries and Wineries (Chaffee County has the most in the state) with products that won’t disappoint.
