If so, Dvorak Expeditions (DVK) has an internationally recognized raft guide training program to help you learn the technical skills, strokes and maneuvers needed to become a proficient whitewater rafting guide. If you are already a committed paddler, our training program offers a unique and exhilarating way to learn new skills and experience the water from an entirely different perspective. If you have an interest in boating, but lack prior knowledge or background in whitewater, then this program will provide the tools and training you need to develop into a competent, qualified, and versatile raft guide. Dvorak Expeditions has been offering guide and private boater river training for longer than any other Colorado outfitter. If you would like to set yourself a step, page, or bend in the river ahead of all the rest, then DVK river training is what you need. Learn from experienced multifaceted guides and instructors (including Bill Dvorak, consummate Rescue 3 instructor). DVK includes a top-level intro to Swift Water Rescue Course (SRT1) option to every trainee. We also teach valuable camping skills and outdoor cooking on our guide-training course. Come learn how the pros do it, from a company that helped shape the wilderness survival guidelines and techniques for both NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) and Outward Bound programs when they were in their infancy.

The basic instructional areas within our guide training and instruction include: Equipment selection

Guide Training Row Raft

  • Paddle boat and oar boat (rigging, control, recovery)
  • Maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Reading river flows, lines
  • Scouting and running rapids
  • Rescue and evacuation techniques
  • Minimum impact camping

Specific white water skills you will be taught include

  • Basic and more technical whitewater strokes
  • Ferrying
  • Eddy turns
  • River hydrology
  • River etiquette

Class Levels: Beginner/Intermediate (River Class II-III), Intermediate/Advanced (River Class III-V).
