DVORAK EXPEDITIONS OFFERS SELECTED OPPORTUNITY FOR INTERNSHIPS
Dvorak Expeditions, Est. 1969, is a whitewater rafting, kayak & fishing company that is seeking qualified university students looking for practical aspects of running an outfitting business including; marketing, recreation, public relations, whitewater activities of all kinds and guiding and leadership experience in the outdoors with Colorado’s 1st licensed outfitter Est. 1969. Candidates for an internship in these fields with DVK must submit a resume and cover letter detailing their interest in this position, as well as personal and employer or university requirements.
The persons qualifying for these internships should have superior academic work habits, strong written and verbal communication skills, and describe themselves as a self-starter who knows how to demonstrate initiative with various projects. Ideally, the interns will have room and board provided and the program will require a minimum of a 12 week commitment.
DVK is prepared to supply housing, attendance to our whitewater guide course in May, Colorado river trips, and other attractive benefits, as well as excellent real-world experience in the whitewater outfitting industry. The internships will offer practical experience in a variety of administrative functions including: general office duties, writing, research & analysis, online marketing, blogging & social media, sustainability practices and special events planning. DVK is qualified to work with a candidate’s academic institution to facilitate work/study credit.
The internships are open to all majors, especially those with a concentration in tourism management, recreation & leisure studies, communications, marketing, sustainability and outdoor education. Dvorak Expeditions has been offering guide and private boater river training since 1969 as Colorado 1st licensed outfitter. If you would like to set yourself a step, page, or bend in the river ahead of all the rest, then DVK river training is what you need. Learn from experienced multifaceted guides and instructors (including Bill Dvorak, consummate Rescue 3 instructor). DVK includes a top-level intro to Swift Water Rescue Courses as an option to every trainee. We also teach valuable camping skills and outdoor cooking on our guide-training course. Come learn how the pros do it, from a company that helped shape the wilderness survival guidelines and techniques for both NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) and Outward Bound programs when they were in their infancy.
The basic instructional areas within our guide training and instruction include:
- Equipment selection
- Paddle boat and oar boat (rigging, control, recovery)
- Maintenance and repair of equipment
- Reading river flows, lines
- Scouting and running rapids
- Rescue and evacuation techniques
- Minimum impact camping
Specific white water skills you will be taught include:
- Basic and more technical whitewater strokes
- Eddy turns
- River hydrology
- River etiquette
- Beginner/Intermediate (River Class II-III),
- Intermediate/Advanced (River Class III-V).

Thank you for your request for possible employment on completion of our 14 day professional guide training course. To become a guide with Dvorak Expeditions. We would like to give you some background and an idea of what we are about. We are a corporation established under Colorado and Utah law. The original company was owned by Partners, Inc. and started in 1969. We ran the Partners River Program for six years prior to buying it in 1984. Originally Partners was a non-profit company offering trips for youth of all types — delinquents, school groups, youth camps, scouts, etc. — and had basically expanded to some commercial trips to offset the cost of the social service trips, which was at best break-even. Since 1985 Dvorak Expeditions has maintained its connection with the youth population and has expanded its trip program to a much larger client base, now running nine rivers and 29 different canyons. We have a number of special feature trips and seminars in the program as well.
Our instructional school for kayaking, rafting , Stand-up Paddle Boards, Swift water Rescue courses (RESCUE 3 INTERNATIONAL) and Guide Training programs are among the best in the U.S. We are recognized and well respected and want our guides to know that they will receive an excellent, professional training. Professional River Guide Training & (DVK new staff orientation) Guide/Instructor’s Orientation) :CO/UT, Multi-River Courses. Employed guides will also include Rescue 3 International’s certified – River Rescue Technician (RRC) course 3 days. On completion of the guide training and evaluations DVK will sign contracts for seasonal guide employment.
Guide Training will take place on a variety of rivers under Dvorak Expeditions. The states are Colorado, Utah, Wyoming. Rivers: Arkansas, Colorado, Dolores, Green, Gunnison, North Platte, Rio Grande & San Miguel Rivers. The Classification of these rivers will vary from Class II to Class V. Training and orientation will be in paddle rafts, oar rafts, inflatable kayaks and hard shell kayaks. Multi day trips and environmental instruction will occur per river. Natural history and ecological awareness is also included. Low impact camping and wilderness cooking.
